Since this shall be your first meeting with your Obstetrician, the conversation will generally centre around getting to know each other. The relationship between you and your Obstetrician has to be built on mutual trust as it has to go a long way.... for full 9 months... and even beyond!
WHEN SHOULD BE MY FIRST VISIT?
We recommend you to visit your Obstetrician as soon as you miss your periods.
WHAT INFORMATION WILL I NEED TO PROVIDE?
On your first visit to your Obstetrician, you shall be asked the following questions?
1) Whether this is your first pregnancy?
2) Your last menstrual period (LMP). This will help us to calculate your expected date of delivery (EDD).
3) History related to your previous pregnancy (ies).
4) Whether you are on any medication for high blood pressure/diabetes/thyroid disorder?
5) Any previous medical or surgical records?
6) Any family history of high blood pressure/diabetes?
This will be followed by a general physical examination (Blood pressure, weight etc). Depending on the time of presentation, you shall undergo a per vaginum examination (if pregnancy is less than 12 weeks) or a per abdominal examination.
Investigations will include blood and urine tests and an ultrasound.
Note: Keep your first antenatal prescription safe and bring it to the clinic for all your subsequent visits.
